Q -Do tactical Edge training courses comply with the new standards as set out in Bill 159, the Private Investigator’s and Security Guards Act?

A -Yes, in fact, some of the courses actually exceed the standards set out for police officers in the Policing Standards Act.

Q - Are the courses certified?

A -Yes, students successfully completing any of the courses offered by The Tactical Edge will receive a certificate.

Q -Is there an evaluation process?

A -Yes, the student must complete two written exams for the recruit courses. The physical skills evaluations are based on an on-going instructor assessment of the students acquired abilities.

Q -Are all of the instructorsqualified/certified?

A -Yes, all of The Tactical Edge instructors are provincially recognized Use of Force instructors with a variety of training skills and expertise. Instructor resumes are available upon request.

Q - Are the courses set or flexible?

A -All of the courses offered by The Tactical Edge are flexible, depending on the needs/requirements of the client.

Q -What about class size? How many students?

A -The academic classes held in a classroom setting can accommodate 20-30 students. The maximum number of students for the physical skills courses is 14. Larger numbers impair student learning and safety.

Q - Where does the training take place?

A- We come to you! All that is required is a class/board room or similar area. For the physical skills training, an open area large enough to accommodate the maximum class size is required. Space/location options can be explored further with the client.

Q -What equipment is needed for the various skills courses?

A -Students are encouraged to wear a regular uniform or gym clothes to train. Required equipment would be based on the selected training course i.e. duty belt, baton, handcuffs and is supplied by the student/client.

Q -How long are the various course components?

A -Each course component varies in length from 1 hour to 3.5 hours. This can be further discussed/explored with the client to make up an appropriate training schedule.

Q -What is the cost of the training?

A -The cost varies, dependant upon whether the course is ½ day, full day, several days or extra instructors are required.

Q -Is a high level of fitness required for the physical skills courses?

A -No, the courses are skills-based, not fitness-based.

Q -What is ‘tactical communication’?

A -This is a term used to describe a method of communication used by security and police officers to diffuse a crisis or conflict. The goal in crisis intervention is to de-escalate an already volatile situation or prevent it from escalating in the first place.

Q -What are ‘dynamic training scenarios’?

A -These are realistic scenarios role-played and safetied by qualified instructors, in which the student applies his/her knowledge of Canadian law, local procedures and if applicable, physical skills. These scenarios can be tailored to the client’s specific requirements. They allow the student to apply his/her knowledge/skills in a controlled, safe training environment. Use of a padded training (F.I.S.T.) suit allows for dynamic physical skills training.
